Kirsty offers fun and interactive poetry workshops, author talks and creative writing sessions for all ages. She loves sharing her passion for words and helping pupils discover their creative super powers!

Kirsty’s poetry workshops include performances of her own poetry, along with readings of work by other poets, with a focus on exploring diverse voices and the techniques used by contemporary poets.

Through whole school assemblies, smaller group sessions or school-wide poetry days, Kirsty will inspire a love of words, helping pupils develop the confidence to write and perform their own creations.

A wonderful, inspiring and empowering day, celebrating the power of poetry.

Kirsty’s author talks include a reading of her children’s picture book No Matter the Distance, which tells the story of a little kid with a powerful imagination.  Book sales and signings can be arranged, with a copy donated to the school library.

Kirsty’s bespoke creative writing sessions cover characterisation, story planning, generating ideas and reworking text. She draws on the experience of creating her own picture book (ideal for KS1), and highlights other texts and authors to capture the imaginations of older groups.

Whether the focus is on poetry or stories, Kirsty will liaise with teachers before the event to explore options and tailor her approach to meet the needs and interests of their pupils. Sessions can be delivered in person or remotely, and can focus on a particular theme, region or historical period to link in with the wider curriculum.

Her visit was brilliant, the children absolutely loved it!

Testimonial: Yeo Moor Primary School

“Kirsty was given the brief of creating a day that would enable our whole school community to come together and celebrate playing with words and using our voices.

Beginning with assemblies for each key stage, Kirsty developed a day of workshops that every year group could follow while also providing focused inspiration and guidance for a smaller group of children who would become our school’s ‘word ambassadors’.  Our teachers found the resources Kirsty provided very easy to use in the classroom and it enabled all our children to write freely and creatively.

In the afternoon showcase and celebration, it was incredible to see children who are normally shy in front of their peers, wanting to perform their work in front of the school.  Kirsty has turned us into a school of poets, not afraid to try words out on the page and to use our voice with confidence.”
