Writing

Based in North Somerset, Kirsty’s primary creative practice is poetry. She won the New Writers Poetry Competition 2025, was shortlisted for the Bridport Poetry Prize 2023 and long listed for the 2023 National Poetry Competition.

Her work has been featured on BBC Radio Bristol, nominated for the Pushcart Prize and published by Grind&bearing Press, Sunday Mornings at the River, Dear Damsels and Wee Sparrow Press. She has also developed several performance pieces for St George’s Bristol. Kirsty loves experimenting with form and enjoys working in collaboration with other artists.

Facilitation

Kirsty has a wealth of experience delivering creative workshops for a wide range of people, in school settings, wellbeing groups and public spaces across the south west. Her workshops draw on her skills as a poet and performer, and incorporate visual arts techniques (zine making, collage, prints) alongside creative writing - using spoken word and group writing techniques for a truly inclusive approach.

Kirsty completed her Creative Health Practitioner training over nine months in 2024-25. Funded by Arts Council England and delivered by CreativeShift, the programme included lectures, placements and mentoring, covering topics such as safeguarding, co-production and programme design.

In 2025, she was selected to deliver creative activities in schools in the West of England, as part of a programme funded by WECA and Arts Council England. Kirsty designed and delivered zine-making workshops in primary, secondary and SEND settings, receiving excellent feedback from all partners.

“Your course really got me out of a writing slump... thanks for being a wonderful teacher and inspiring creativity.”

“What did I gain? Trusting my own imagination. Rekindling my love for writing and literature. Actually believing in my own ability.”

“The participants were all quite moved and extremely proud of what they’d achieved. Their poem was so powerful!”

Specialist educational settings

“Kirsty delivered a creative writing session for our women’s support group. Most of the women had never done any writing before, but by the end they had written a group poem they were really proud of. One of the women has continued to write since!

Some of the women were unsure as to what it would be like but Kirsty made them feel at ease. They loved hearing clips of performance poets, as well as the visual prompts that she used, and have told us they really enjoyed the whole session.”

Community groups

“Kirsty was given the brief of creating a day that would enable our whole school community to come together and celebrate playing with words and using our voices. Beginning with assemblies for each key stage, Kirsty developed a day of workshops that every year group could follow while also providing focused inspiration and guidance for a smaller group of children who would become our school’s ‘word ambassadors’. Our teachers found the resources Kirsty provided very easy to use in the classroom and it enabled all our children to write freely and creatively.

In the afternoon showcase and celebration, it was incredible to see children who are normally shy in front of their peers, wanting to perform their work in front of the school. Kirsty has turned us into a school of poets, not afraid to try words out on the page and to use our voice with confidence.”
